It is during the late Paleozoic era, in the Carboniferous and Permian Periods, approximately 300 million years ago, that this transition occurred. During this period, there were higher global temperatures and tropical swamps dominated land on the Earth. This allowed amphibians to move farther inland. Later, synapsids and diapsids now dominated the land.
