The amount of support that he had. He had many armies allied under his banner which enabled him to win wars. As he decided not to impose his will on the defeated and not to annex them, he focused on creating a large nation of those who wanted voluntarily to join him. The larger he became the more people joined. Eventually he got everyone together.
