To obtain the distance between these two points we can follow the following steps:

I f we have the following two points (a,c), and (b,c).

Step 1.

Draw a right triangle with coordinates (a, c), (b, c) and (b, d)

So, we have this graph:

Step 2.

Find the lengths of the legs of the triangle.

W= 1-(-5)=6

V=6-(-3)=9

Step 3 - Use Pythagoras' theorem to calculate distance:

[tex]U^2=W^2+V^2[/tex][tex]U^2=6^2+9^2=36+81=117[/tex][tex]U=\sqrt[]{117}\text{ }\cong\text{10.8}[/tex]

The distance is approximately 10.8.
